BUHE BONFIRE

A section in the bible tells us about a time where, Jesus Christ accompanied by two of his diciples, goes up to a mountain to pray. On that night, his disciples witnessed when God was revealed to Jesus during his prayers.

For many Christians accross the globe this story of the bible does not have any special value. For Ethiopian Orthodox Christians, however, this event has a special place and value. It is commemorated warmly by Ethiopians accross the country.

Named after the mountain ( Debretabor) this occasion is marked by bonfires being torched accross the country, near churches and in homes. Special songs for the occasion are sang by young boys. Unique breads being cooked everywhere gives a different aroma to the city.

Special Places to go to: Any where. better go to churches to witness the unique singing celebrations

Exact date of Buhe in 2013: August 17
