As you can learn from our do not misunderstand link, not so many Ethiopians speak fluent international languages, mainly because Ethiopia has a unique history never to be colonized. This often leads to misunderstandings as, for example, an Ethiopian might pronounce thirteen and thirty in the same way.

One way of avoiding such communication barriers is providing tourists or travelers to Ethiopia with a listing of basic Ethiopian words and phrases. Our classification of words is based on situations and circumstances that tourists are likely to find themselves into starting from the moment they exit the airport terminal.

Our Ethiopian words and phrases link comprises 3 of the most spoken languages in Ethiopia. A PDF version of our language resources are also available for tourists to print them and use them during their travel.
