Important note: prior to browsing the cultural distinction of some of these nations and nationalities, please be informed that there are different views with their number. Here we have provided you with a listing of 66 distinct ethnics/tribes. Some however argue that the number is much above 66. Taking the Amhara for example, you will come accross the Amhara of Gonder and that of Gojam. Although basically speaking the same language and sharing the same name, they have distinctions making them different from one another. They have unique dialects, different ways of dressing, their own music and dances. The same applies for the Oromo which covers a wide geographic area.

Taking these differences into consideration, there are some experts which insist that the number of ethnics and tribes goes as far as 86, mainly attributed to their cultural differences.

As different sections of our website are reviewed by different experts you might find the number of nations and nationalities differing for this reason.
