GAMBELA NATIONAL PARK

Described as the largest park in Ethiopia by a distance(5061 square kilomters ), the Gambella national park is one of the few Ethiopian Parks where you can have a close range view of lions. The wildlife in Gambella Park is so diverse that you can find more than 60 different animals, including elephants which are on the verge of extinction in the park. With more and more settlements within the stretch of the park are threatning the wildlife in the park.

Three rivers intersect within the park, the biggest being the Baro river rich in its fish resources. Baro is also the only river in Ethiopia which can be used for transportation purposes. Due to its enormous area, it is always necessary to make sure that you don't get lost in the park.

How to get there: It is possible to go to Gambela by plane( 2 flights a week are available from Addis Ababa) or make the journey by car.( a little more than 12 hours drive by 4WD)

Health information: there is malaria risk in the Simien; make sure that you take the necessary precautions.
